Wat Phu Laos June 2009.
The lodgings on the Mekong River gave me a bike to use, to ride the 12 km to Wat Phu, a temple of ruins from the empire of the Khmer. The god Shiva is said to live in the mountain it is built upon, the auspicious one. There is little to see of auspicion here, women sell hand woven bracelets to the hand full of tourists that find the temple, a place of Theravada Buddhism. On my ride to the temple, I rode by a party, I stopped to watch, they invited me to join them, I drank Lao Lao, rice whiskey and learned that they where celebrating the harvest of rice.
