It’s a long held tradition here. Its roots Catholic; the start of lent. You will see little signs of it here. Here it’s about fun in the middle of winter. Just follow the pack of smurfs to the unmistakable sound of Koln Carnival music, yes it is its own genre. Be prepared though, the party lasts a week, and there are no breaks unless you hide. We will dance and sing and drink the whole time until it ends, which it does, and when it does we get on the train go home and wait…until next year.
